Frequently Asked Questions
What is BrainThink?
BrainThink.com is a web site devoted to sharing news, information, and commentary about current events in the United States and around the world.
What is BrainThink's purpose?
The goal of BrainThink is admittedly ambitious: to broaden the perspective of the American voter and make them aware of the issues that are facing their country, how their country's actions are impacting the rest of the world, and how today's events will impact their future. With only a handful of exceptions, most American broadcast media does very little true investigative journalism, and typically fails to follow a meaningful and relevant story for more than a few "news cycles" (in the real world, we refer to them as "days").

BrainThink's promise is to focus on issues that really matter, and bring to your attention informative articles and information that will help you make up your own mind about the issues.
Who runs BrainThink, and why?
BrainThink is independently owned and operated by Security Leak Ventures™ — basically, one guy with a big idea. BrainThink is not affiliated with any political party.
Where is BrainThink located?
BrainThink is located in Silicon Valley, between San Francisco and San Jose, California.
Do you make any money doing this?
No, this is a money-losing venture for the me, and it's financed entirely out of my pocket. However, I do look for ways to offset my out-of-pocket expenses by selling self-designed items (such as t-shirts, bumper stickers, etc.) via the BrainThink Shop (hosted by CafePress) and also by running banner ads. But what I lack in money and infrastructure, I try to make up for via passion and my desire to enlighten people and get them to wake up to reality.
Do people actually visit this site?
You better believe they do! Thousands per month, actually, and they usually find out about it by word of mouth of from email links forwarded between friends and acquaintances. I've been astonished at the amount of traffic the site is starting to get — lately, the total number of visitors seems to grow by about 20%-30% per month.
I'm an advertiser. Why should I care?
BrainThink.com now gets over 7,500 visitors per month, to whom it delivers over 25,000 page impressions per month. That's a lot of eyeballs! These visitors are people that buy consumer goods and services just like everyone else. If you're interested in advertising directly with BrainThink.com, please click here to send feedback.
What kind of advertising do you allow?
Advertising is one of the methods used to keep the site going, but the founder tries hard to ensure that the advertising that does get carried is reasonably tasteful and doesn't annoy you, the visitor. To help achieve this, BrainThink.com only works with reputable advertising networks, and even then only allows selective ads to be carried on the site. Ads that try to redirect your browser sessions or mislead you are not allowed, nor are ads that blink incessantly, pining for your attention, hoping that one day you'll cave in and just clobber the boxing kangaroo.
Do you have a privacy policy?
Yes. To read it in full, please click here.
What hardware and software is the site run on?
BrainThink is run on a second-hand server in the closet of a spare bedroom, and uses custom software written (from scratch) entirely by the founder. The site is powered by an open-source operating system, web server and database. Specifics are a closely guarded trade secret... I could tell you, but then you'd have to hire me. :)
I want to help you — what can I do?
If you want to submit your own article, or point out a good article on another website, click here. If you have any comments or suggestions, click here. BrainThink is always interested in those willing to contribute time and money to help the site grow.
Do you get fan mail or hate mail?
Yes, I get both, and both are flattering, because it tells me people are paying attention to my work... whether or not they'll change their pre-conceived opinions, who knows. But the moment I knew that BrainThink was having an impact was the day that I got both a hate email and a fan email. Now that was pretty cool!
